Good. I'm late, too.

[And if they're later than he is, he can really afford to keep standing by her desk. Especially since he now knows that she's at least somewhat in the loop. Doesn't mean he'll spill his guts to her, but he feels a lot better about chatting with her.]

Okay, you got my name. What's yours?

[waitedforyears]

I'm Amy. Amy Pond. [ A quick grin, not necessarily friendly but certainly flirtatious. ]

They're a few days late.

[trenchknives]

Nice to meet ya, Amy.

[A long pause as he frowns.]

Shit. If they ain't comin', we got a problem. They send a telegram or anything?

[waitedforyears]

Likewise.

[ She takes a piece of paper off the pile on her desk, showing it to him. ] They'll be there on Thursday. I was just about to go tell the others.

[trenchknives]

Well, shit, if they ain't comin' today...

[He smiles at her charmingly.]

Ya wanna go grab a bite to eat, or somethin'?

[waitedforyears]

[ There's a moment's thought, but then she's getting to her feet and grabbing her coat. ]

Lead the way, Jimmy. [ The telegram goes into the coat pocket, to be dropped in the hands of someone she trusts on their way out. ]

[Well, that was easier than he'd expected it to be. He heads back down the hallway, trying to think of where to go.]

There's a little Italian place down the block, if ya like that kinda food. Went there once with a friend of mine, 'n it's pretty good. Y'know, if ya want.

[waitedforyears]

You're buying. [ Amy isn't one to say no to a flirt and she's attractive and not afraid to use it to her advantage is part of the reason she's made it as far as she has. ]

[trenchknives]

'course I am. I owe ya. Without you, I woulda been sittin' in an empty meetin' for an hour, waitin' for those guys to show up.

[He shoves his hands into his pockets as he steps out of the building -- it's not exactly warm out there.]

[waitedforyears]

Lucky you got lost, then, isn't it. [ It isn't, hence the coat. Amy wraps it closely around herself. ]

So, you only here for the meeting?

[trenchknives]

Nah, I live around here. Born 'n raised, actually.

[waitedforyears]

Yeah? I'm Scottish. [ Which may or may not be why the Dawsons like talking to her. ]

[trenchknives]

That's what I was guessin', from the accent. When'd ya come here?

[He's walking a little slowly -- the cold weather always makes his limp worse -- but he's enjoying talking to her, and they're almost at the restaurant.]

[waitedforyears]

When I was ten. [ And she's kept the accent, because it's the only reminder she has of Scotland and her childhood.

She notices the limp, of course, but doesn't comment. ] I like it here, though. [ Not exactly a lie. ]

[trenchknives]

Really? A lotta people'd rather be somewhere else.

[He holds open the door of the restaurant for her.]

Me, I guess I'm just used to it.

[waitedforyears]

Yeah? Maybe one day I'll go back to Scotland. Not right now, though.

[ Inclining her head in thanks as she walks in. ]

Where else've you been?

[trenchknives]

France, for the war, 'n New York after that, for a little while. Guess I maybe went through Scotland on the way to France, but I don't really remember it.

[waitedforyears]

[ That explains the limp, she's guessing. ] Y'missed out, then.

[trenchknives]

Is it really that good?

[He picks a table for them, and immediately orders coffee.]

Guess I never really thought about it.

[waitedforyears]

'course it is. [ She may be biased, though, and her memories painted rosier than they were, but she's not gonna tell him any of that if he actually believes her.

She orders a coffee as well, before taking the menu and studying it. ]

[trenchknives]

Maybe I'll go there someday, then. I always kinda wanted to travel.

[He picks up his own menu, studies it, trying to play it cool.]

[waitedforyears]

Yeah? Y'should. [ A beat while she just looks at the menu, then she puts it down. ]

Any recommendations?

[trenchknives]

The spaghetti ain't half bad. Meatballs're good too. 'n there's some thing called eggplant parmesan that my friend gets, but I'm skeptical.

[waitedforyears]

Yeah, I'm not in it for the vegetables. [ Pushing the menu to the edge of the table. ] Beatballs it is.

[trenchknives]

Good, I ain't goin' for vegetables either. I'll get the spaghetti.

[He grins at her, liking the way she talks, liking her enthusiasm.]
